FAQ

FAQ

What do I wear?

Meditation is about finding comfort in your body. Come in whatever is most comfortable for your body; no yoga or athletic gear required. Come straight from work or from home - just as you are. We encourage warm and comfortable clothing and anything else to ease your mind and body - your own pillow, blanket, shawl etc. We do provide meditation cushions and chairs.

What do I need to bring to class?

It is important to us that meditation is accessible to all beings. To ensure you feel supported, we offer a range of meditation floor cushions, bolsters, back-jacks (for extra back support) and elevated cushions so that you can see what works for your body. If you require a chair or more support, please email us at [email protected].

How is meditation different from yoga?

Meditation is the practice of finding stillness and quieting the mind. Both use the breath as a way to enter the practice but meditation focuses on the brain and patterns of thought rather than the movement of the body. You’re connecting back to yourself on a deeper and often more sustained level.

Do you offer meditation for beginners?

Our classes work for you wherever you are on your meditation journey. We have classes that are great for beginners and practitioners alike, like The Seed. We also offer workshops to grow and expand your practice.

What can I expect from a class? And a workshop?

Each class will begin with a ROOTED beings’ guide introducing him/herself, sharing more about the class and then, depending on the class type gracefully easing into the practice with some light seated stretching, guided breathwork and/or meditation.

During a class, you may notice the subtleties around you such as the temperature, smells, sounds, or changes in your physical body. Mindful meditation is bringing awareness to the present moment so noticing your environment and changes within means it’s working!

We offer a variety of workshops full of grounding meditation, heart-opening conversations, journaling and community engagement. These will be held every other Saturday and will be 75 minutes.

What if I can’t sit still or quiet my thoughts?

That’s okay! Meditation doesn’t require you to completely rid yourself of your thoughts and actions. We are here to help guide you into peacefully connecting to your running thoughts. This practice is about noticing what you’re thinking, being aware of your focus and redirecting your attention to a single focal point. The more you practice this kind of subconscious awareness, the more you’ll be able to achieve a quiet “zen” mind and take this beyond the walls of the studio.

Where do I park?

There is meter parking right outside the Studio on Manhattan Avenue or on Highland Avenue which is one block east. There is also a parking garage on Morningside and 12th street.

We are located on the second floor of The Well (look for the blue awning). Walk up the stairs and we will be through the first clear door on your left.

How do I sign up?

Simple - go to our schedule and sign up for a class directly! We offer a variety of membership options for whatever works best for your needs.

Do you have any specials?

We offer seasonal specials. Please sign-up for our newsletter to stay up-to-date.

What’s your cancellation policy?

We require a 24 hour notice.

What’s your late policy?

We recommend that you plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early to give yourself time to park and settle in. We have a relaxing area which we call the Zen Den as well as a tea building station for you to settle before class begins. We understand that timing does not always work out as planned, but will be shutting the doors 2 minutes after class to ensure a peaceful experience for all and will not allow late comers.

Can I bring my phone?

Yes, but we encourage you to leave your phone with your belongings before heading into class. There are cubbies available in our Zen Den.

Can I bring my kids to class?

We recommend our meditation classes for children that are least 10 years old. You know your child best though, so if you are confident that they can sit still in a class for 30-45 minutes, please feel free to bring them. Also, our partner, Breathe and Learn is a children’s mindfulness and yoga program offered for ages 6-12 years old. Please connect with [email protected] to learn more.
